Flags
Here at Untranslatable, we strive to include and represent every language, whether big or small.
This representation also comes in many forms, including flags. Flags are usually generated per country, as languages can have different variations depending on the country.
However, when it comes to certain minority languages the national flag may not always be representative of the people who speak that language. This is why we have introduced additional flags for these languages in order to better represent the language and its speakers.
Please note that this is not a fully realized list of all the languages that would qualify, and if a flag is missing according to you, feel free to send us an email and we'd happy add it.
The criteria would be that is has to be a minority language where the national flag is not representative.

When does a language need a specific minority flag?
Example: Spanish spoken in Honduras
Spanish as a language knows many varieties, which are often simply represented by either the Spanish or Mexican flag. On Untranslatable, however, the flag always corresponds to the country of submissions, which means the specific language variation of Spanish spoken in Honduras is always adequately represented.
Does not qualify, as the country flag accurately represents Spanish spoken in Hondruas
Example: Catalan spoken in Spain
On the other hand, a language like Catalan was prohibited during the Franco era, and even though it is an officially recognized language in Catalan Countries, politically there is still a lot of tension between the Spanish and Catalan authorities, which would make the representation of the people who speak Catalan with the Spanish flag not entirely adequate.
Qualifies, as the Spanish flag does not accurately represent the people who speak Catalan
That being said, we know this is a complicated subject and these guidelines aren't set in stone. If you feel your language does qualify and has not been mentioned yet, feel free to reach out.
