Content Moderator (various languages)

We're looking for curious, open-minded people who love language to help us keep Untranslatable accurate, informative, and welcoming.

Untranslatable is a collaborative, multilingual dictionary capturing words and expressions that need more than just translating, from slang, sayings, cultural phrases, and the language people actually use. We're building a space where linguistic creativity from every corner of the world is celebrated and preserved.

As a content moderator, you'll review new entries in the languages you speak, ensuring they meet our guidelines and provide genuine cultural insight.

Unfortunately it is an unpaid position, but what you get in return is a lot of flexibility, both in how much time you spend on your tasks, as well as how you put this on your CV. It can be as data cleaning, linguistic research, translation work, or whatever describes your tasks in a way that fits your goals.

We welcome people from all backgrounds. Whether you're a polyglot, a language student, a native speaker passionate about your culture, or simply someone who loves words—your perspective matters.
What you will do:
  • Review user-submitted entries in your language(s)
  • Check that entries comply with our submission guidelines
  • Verify that definitions, context, and examples are accurate and informative
  • Ensure content is respectful and free from harmful material
  • Flag entries that need clarification or additional context
  • Help maintain the quality and authenticity of our growing database
  • Contribute to creating a welcoming, inclusive space for all language lovers
What we are looking for:
  • Native or advanced proficiency in one or more languages
  • Curiosity about language, culture, and how people communicate
  • Attention to detail and ability to assess information for accuracy
  • Open-mindedness and cultural sensitivity
  • Good judgment in applying community guidelines
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own time
